Feb. 10: Calcutta High Court today asked the Howrah Improvement Trust to allow Exhibition and Event (India) to hold an event fair at Dumurjala stadium in Ramrajatala.
Yesterday, a single bench of the high court had said only those selected through tender could use the stadium.
A division bench of acting Chief Justice Nishita Mhatre and Justice Tapobrata Chakraborty issued the order, allowing the month-long fair from February 12, following an appeal by the organisation against Justice Debangshu Basak's order.
On behalf of the organisation, advocate Ashish Sanyal said: "The trust had allowed my client to use the stadium for Rs 66 lakh. My client paid the money.
"But on Wednesday, the trust told my client that they could not use the stadium as another person, Gautam Saha, had been allowed to use it from February 12. Yesterday, the judge had allowed my client to claim damage from the trust."
More than 250 traders from across the country and Bangladesh are expected at the fair called Howrah Utsav.
Kallol Bose, appearing for the trust, said his client made a mistake by allowing the petitioner to use the stadium when Saha had already been given the permission.
