The West Bengal Livestock Development Corporation, in association with Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation, launched three food trucks at Poura Bhavan on Monday. The food trucks will sell frozen processed meat from Haringhata Farms along with snacks like chicken nuggets, fried rice, biryani, rolls, sandwiches, etc.
“All the trucks will have a live kitchen. Tea, coffee and soft drinks will be served along with food. Each truck is equipped with a hot plate, grills, tea/coffee vending machine, a rotating shawarma stand, a deep fridge, a deep fat frier, a working basin along with UPS and a generator. There is no fixed place for the trucks. In the mornings, they will be stationed outside parks so that morning walkers can shop from there. Around lunch time, they would be stationed in office areas like Sector V and Karunamoyee. In the evening, they could be stationed outside the malls or the stadium. That is the advantage of this mobile food truck,” said Dr Gouri Shankar Koner, managing director, West Bengal Livestock Development Corporation.
MLA Sujit Bose flagged off the trucks from the Corporation parking lot along with Ananta Deb Adhikari, director, West Bengal Livestock Development Corporation, who is also the MLA of Moynaguri. “This is like an updated version of Benfish, which was the first-ever food truck in Calcutta. These trucks will be stationed on three routes for the time being — one on the Lake Town-Belgachhia Metro route, another on New Town-Rajarhat-Salt Lake and the third on Dalhousie-Esplanade-New Market. Another truck is already operational outside the Dakshinapan shopping complex in Dhakuria. We are also planning to launch a fifth truck to provide services in Sector V,” said Bose.
“An egg roll costs Rs 20. One plate Chicken Mayonnaise Sandwich costs Rs 40 while a plate of Chicken Kasa costs Rs 30. Nowhere else will you find such reasonable pricing,” Bose added.
Raw chicken keema will be available for Rs 280, Chicken Salami (200g) costs Rs 90, Pork Chops cost Rs 320 per kg, dressed goat meat (chevon) costs Rs 500 per kg, chicken chilli cheese sausage costs Rs 230 for 500g, pork bacon costs Rs 320 for 500g while 500g chicken ham is available for Rs 300.
Every van will be manned by two personnel — one to cook and the other to pack and serve. They will be working in two shifts, morning and evening. These personnel are being recruited and paid by West Bengal Livestock Development Corporation, in association with Bidhannagar Municipal Corporation.
“Fresh meat will now be available at your doorstep. A lot of senior citizens cannot go to the market. For them, buying meat from our truck would be a better option. Also parents and housewives can do their shopping while on their way back home after dropping the kid at school,” said Tapas Ghosh, a livestock development corporation official.
