A woman has alleged that she has been robbed of her two-bhori gold chain while she was boarding a packed Dum Dum-bound train at Tollygunge station on Wednesday.
Kanika Dasgupta, 32, of Naktala told the Metro authorities that she realised the loss after boarding the train.
She got down Rabindra Sarobar and returned to Tollygunge to lodge a complaint with the stationmaster.
“The complainant said she felt a tug around her neck while boarding the train but thought it was the usual tug and push during a Metro ride. Once inside, she found the chain missing but the doors had closed by then. She got down at the next station and came back to Tollygunge,” said a Metro official. The stationmaster immediately forwarded the complaint to Regent Park police station and called for CCTV footage between 12.45pm and 1pm.
“We are checking the footage and trying to identify the culprit. We saw suspicious men near the woman but the snatching could not be seen clearly,” said a senior officer of Regent Park police station.
Metro sources said the woman was clear in the video but not the snatching.
“The footage showed the woman getting into a Metro compartment and coming out within seconds. She picked up something from the floor and got inside,” said a Metro railway police officer, who handed over the footage to the officers of the Regent Park police station.
