Suri, Aug. 4: A Class XII student at a girls’ school at Suri in Birbhum was allegedly strip-searched by two teachers in the staff room in front of other teachers and students after her classmate accused her of stealing Rs 150 yesterday.
Lipika Saha and Chaitali Gupta Sarkar of the Suri Kaligati Smriti Nari Siksha Niketan were arrested this morning and later granted bail. The school has denied the allegation.
The money was not found on the girl, who had also been accused of stealing a Bangladeshi one-taka coin. She handed over a coin to the teachers but said it had been gifted to her by her father, a bus conductor.
“The two teachers forced me to take off my sari and undergarments in front of others,” she alleged. Headmistress Kalpana Ray said: “She was not strip-searched.”
