The compound of the Assembly was strewn with garbage on Sunday, a sight that made a mockery of the government's attempts at spreading awareness on how accumulation of garbage can lead to a spurt in dengue. "A PWD team usually cleans the Assembly premises every day," speaker Biman Banerjee said."I will inquire into it. Maybe the premises have not been cleaned since Friday evening because Saturday and Sunday were holidays. But it is not a good thing to have a heap of garbage."Public health experts have long been warning that dumped garbage is a potential mosquito breeding ground.Though the Assembly is not in session, policemen guarding the premises and those working in the secretariat have to go there daily.
