Feb. 22: Dancing to the tune of popular Bollywood numbers, listening to Christmas carols, watching a magic show and playing games - it was a day to remember for the children of various NGOs and institutes invited to a party at Raj Bhavan recently.
The highlight of the day was a games session with the volunteers of the Jungle Crows Khelo Rugby team. The kids laughed and ran around the Raj Bhavan lawn. "We are playing chain-chain and kabaddi. I am loving every moment," said Nusrat Parveen, Class V, Samaritan Help Mission.
Shamlu Dudeja of Calcutta Foundation, which organised the party, was elated to see the kids having a good time. "I love seeing so many happy faces. It is the 15th year of the party and I am glad to see all the kids. I would like to thank all the volunteers and teachers who have brought the children here," she said.
Shubhadeep Bhattacharya, a student of Class V, came with the Basha team. "I love the magic show. The games too are interesting. I had great fun singing the Bollywood numbers," he said.
The teachers, too, had fun watching the little ones enjoy so much.
"It is a great opportunity for them to meet other kids and socialise. For them, it is a day full of laughter," said Kimi Koshy of St. Paul's School, Shyambazar.
Several other organisations, including Anandan, Refuge, Mentaid, Howrah Mahila Samiti, St. Elizabeth Girls' Hostel, CINI, Udayan, Hope Foundation, Calcutta Rescue, Bustee Welfare Centre and The Rainbow School, had joined the fun.
Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi was happy too see so many children. "It feels great to have so many kids around all at once. There are a lot of new kids this year. Children make a home happy and today Raj Bhavan is happy. Kids are the future of the country. I want them to come here every year and enjoy themselves," he said.
