A wave pool, water rides and more are on offer at Savin Kingdom, all at a Puja discount |
Don’t want to hop from one pandal to another and jostle for a view of Durga idols? Well, then take a plunge in the cool waters at Savin Kingdom or enjoy a cultural evening at Lifestyle. Here’s a peek at what is on offer for you during Puja.
SAVIN KINGDOM: When it comes to fun unlimited, the only amusement park in north Bengal located on the fringe of Siliguri takes the crown.
And if you want to enjoy the fun at a discounted rate, visit the amusement park and water kingdom there not before 12 noon and not after 3pm on Saptami, Astami, Nabami and Dashami.
Special attractions: Striking cars, monorails and flying saucer, break dance, paratrooper, tame the bull, wave pool, shower hobs, giant water bucket and artificial waterfall.
Charges: Entry tickets at Rs 100 for adults and Rs 80 for kids — Rs 50 and Rs 40 less than normal rates — for the amusement park. There is a 50 per cent discount on packages that come for Rs 180 and Rs 120 on regular days at the amusement park. “The discount rates are applicable only from 12pm to 3pm for the four days during Pujas,” said Alok Bhattacharjee, the manager (administration), Savin Kingdom.
HOTEL LIFESTYLE: Get ready to trace your roots at the Pujor Thek (get together) — cultural evenings — organised by the Zimpu Media Services at Hotel Lifestyle.
Special attraction: From Rabindra Sangeet to Bengali Adhunik of the late seventies; Bawaiya Geet to Baul music; Lok Geeti, sitar recital and folk dance — all from Saptami to Dashami. The popular Bangla rock band Ether will perform on the evening of Navami and rev up the young crowd.
“In this era of digital acoustics, we have taken a small step to re-connect with the rich cultural heritage that we have,” said Diwash Ghataraj of the Zimpu Media Services.
COSMOS MEGAMALL: Shoppers at the Cosmos Megamall can shake a leg with the local folk dancers performing the Dhunuchi Naach to the beat of the dhak (drum) — traditional Bengali dance performed in front of Goddess Durga — by balancing earthen pots with burning coconut shells on palms, forehead and between the teeth.
“The naach will be held everyday between 7pm and 9pm at the mall atrium. Shoppers can either watch or join the dancers and the dhakis (drummers) on the floor,” said Amit Dhanj, the marketing-manager of the megamall.
DEVILS NIGHTCLUB: Youngsters and those young at heart can let loose their hair at the Devils Nightclub in Salugara. The place is a popular hangout for those who want to get a high and groove to latest numbers.
