The setting: 1942 Calcutta.
The star: Sushant Singh Rajput.
Dibakar Banerjee kickstarted the shoot of his Byomkesh adventure early on Tuesday on the palatial grounds of Saheb Kuthi in Agarpara. Dressed in a crisp white dhoti and short kurta, sporting a thick moustache and just the hint of a stubble, Kai Po Che! man Sushant shot for Detective Byomkesh Bakshi, that traces the beginnings of Saradindu Bandopadhyay’s super sleuth.
For the greater part of Tuesday, Sushant shot for a sequence involving a vintage car at Saheb Kuthi, done up as the home of one of the key characters of the film.
The last big Bolly film Saheb Kuthi had played host to was Mani Ratnam’s 2009 film Raavan starring Abhishek Bachchan and wife Aishwarya.
Detective Byomkesh Bakshi, which is being produced by Yash Raj Films, traces the rise of Byomkesh from a youngster fresh out of college to a man with a knack for solving mysteries. “My Byomkesh isn’t a satyanweshi yet, but is well on his way to becoming one,” Dibakar, the man behind films like Shanghai and Khosla Ka Ghosla, had told t2 when he was on a recce for his film last September.
The month-long schedule of Detective Byomkesh Bakshi will see the cast shoot at familiar Calcutta spots like the streets of Dalhousie and the lanes and bylanes of Tiretti Bazar. Actor-director Arindam Sil’s Nothing Beyond Cinema is line-producing the film.
