Following in the footsteps of Rituparno Ghosh, who had kicked off Robbarer Bioscope with Kuri Nombor Malatibala Lane last Sunday, director Anindya Banerjee has spun out yet another story from the inner chambers of a Bengali household.

Shabeki centres around a bonedi family of north Calcutta that has lost its grandeur but not its traditional values. So, the women are best confined to the four walls. Trouble starts when the daughter-in-law (Deboleena Dutt) comes into the spotlight after being featured in a magazine. Outraged, the family struggles to come to terms with the changing times and values of the younger generation.

Slated for January 8 at 8 pm on Zee Bangla, Shabeki also stars Saswata Chatterjee, Sudipa Basu, Arindam Sil, Tulika Basu and Aparajita Ghosh Das.
