More than 20 women enrolled for a game show titled Didi no. 1 at BA Block.

The first round — the elimination — proved to be a false start. The women were asked two questions and told to write the answers in a chit and submit. “Which was the first barwari puja of Calcutta and who was the first mayor of the city?” But both questions were deemed too tough so they had to be cancelled and another question was asked: “Which bird’s name has an essential puja ingredient in it?” The answer was Shankhachil and many got this right.

The next round had the women kicking footballs into a goal. “This was the most interesting round. I’ve kicked footballs before in the block’s sports meets, but today’s event was special,” smiled Jayeeta Pal, who finished second in the game.
Five contestants made it to the next round, where they had to pick a chit to decide the topic of their questions.

Indrita Mondol picked “music” and the anchor for the evening Sumana Chakraborty sang a Rabindrasangeet with a “fill in the blank” line in the middle. The audience was abuzz with the answer but Indrita couldn’t recall the line in time. Another contestant was asked to remember five random words and recite them in reverse order.

This round narrowed the competition down to three women, who then had to thread a needle for the Didi no. 1 title. Lipi Mitra Basu emerged the winner. “This was totally unexpected but I am very happy to win. My son persuaded me to take part in the game,” smiled Lipi.
