Theft at Rituparna house

Actress Rituparna Sengupta lodged a theft complaint with Lake police station on Monday evening.

Police said gold ornaments kept in an almirah in her apartment on Prince Anwar Shah Road have gone missing. Rituparna said she had kept the ornaments, mostly bangles, in the almirah more than a year ago but realised the loss a day ago. A team from Lake police station inspected the house on Monday night.

Cops shifted

At least 20 Calcutta police officers, including the officer-in-charge and additional officers-in-charge of various police stations, were transferred on Monday.

While officers at Lalbazar termed them routine transfers, a home department source said the change had been made keeping in mind next year's Assembly election. Mahadeb Chakrabarty, the officer-in-charge of Kalighat police station, will replace Shantanu Sinha Biswas of Hare Street police station, who will be the new officer-in-charge at Kalighat.

Murder arrests

Three men were arrested on Monday in connection with the murder of an elderly woman in the Saradapally area of Bhadreswar on November 17. Rajesh Debnath, Gopal Halder and Yugasish Nag had plotted the murder of Aparna Chakraborty, 74, to grab her property, police said.

Chakraborty, who stayed alone, was found murdered in her bedroom.

The police got the names of Debnath and Halder after scanning the call list of Nag, who used to look after Chakraborty.
