College Street: Calcutta University has decided to stick to its earlier decision of not allowing undergraduate honours students admitted in excess of the limit set by the university to get registered.
The syndicate took the decision on Friday.
Last May, the university had specified the maximum number of students each college could admit in honours courses.
The move was an attempt to ensure colleges don't take students beyond their capacity following a prod from the higher education department.
The university had posted on its website the "permissible intake" for honours courses in the 2017-18 session.
Gouripada Soren, the university undergraduate secretary, had said in a notice on February 13 that the date for submission of registration forms "within permissible intakes" had been extended to February 20 .
