“There was a clash in the bazaar area. One motorcycle was torched,” said a resident of Jodhpur Park.

The bike’s fuel tank burst into flames and the fire spread to a tree next to which the two-wheeler was parked.

The officer of the rank of sub-inspector, posted as anti-rowdy officer at Lake police station, was allegedly attacked when he intervened.

“He was attacked with a sharp weapon, possibly a blade,” said another officer. “We are trying to identify the accused.”

There was no confirmation on the number of people arrested from the spot till late on Thursday.

A Jodhpur Park resident said she had never seen anything like this happen in the neighbourhood in her lifetime.

“This was no interior bylane but the main thoroughfare of Jodhpur Park. I cannot believe we had to close our windows in fear,” the resident said.
