Kingfisher Airline’s decision to suspend operations in the city has left fliers groping for information on refund of their fares and chances of being accommodated on other flights.

The airline had announced it would not operate any flights to and from Calcutta till February 28 because of “technical reasons”. “We have been flooded with calls from passengers who want to know when and how they will get their refund. There is also confusion over accommodation of passengers on other flights,” said Anil Punjabi, chairman (east), Travel Agents Federation of India.

Kingfisher’s reservation counter at the airport looked deserted on Sunday. “Kingfisher officials told us that the passengers had been informed about the cancellations. Many have been accommodated on other flights. The ticket price will be refunded to the others,” said an airport official.

Kingfisher officials were unavailable for comment.

“Many are choosing to incur a loss by cancelling Kingfisher tickets and buying tickets on other airlines,” said a city tour operator. “Private airlines are apprehensive about taking on Kingfisher passengers as they are not sure about the payment,” said an industry source.
