Malda, April 10: The Trinamul Congress today lodged a complaint against Union minister and PCC chief Priya Ranjan Das Munshi for violating the model code of conduct.
Ramzan Mondol, the election agent of the Trinamul candidate in the Kharba Assembly by-election, lodged the complaint with returning officer Debashis Sarkar, who is also the subdivisional officer of Chanchol.
The by-election is slated for April 12. The complaint against Das Munshi was filed following Trinamul chief Mamata Banerjee’s instruction.
“The Congress is making false promises to the people before the by-election. No party can break the code of conduct and try to buy votes with money. The Election Commission is not looking into this,” Mamata said here.
The Trinamul chief addressed a rally at the Kalambagan ground in Chanchol today to drum up support for her party candidate, Abdul Khalek. The PCC president had addressed a meeting in the same venue yesterday.
“The Congress leaders are openly talking about developing roads and creating other infrastructure which is absent here. The commission is a silent spectator,” Mamata said.
Das Munshi, however, denied the charge of violating the code of conduct. “I am the MP of this area and aware of the norm. I have a right to tell people what I have done for my constituency,” he said.
