Calcutta, Aug. 11: Calcutta High Court Chief Justice Manjula Chellur has been transferred to Bombay High Court as its head.

Chief Justice Chellur has been requested by the Supreme Court to take the oath of office as the chief justice of Bombay High Court on or before August 24.

According to sources, Chief Justice Chellur's last working day at Calcutta High Court will be August 19. That day, the Narada sting case is scheduled to be heard.

Justice Girish Chandra Gupta, the second senior-most judge of Calcutta High Court, will be the acting chief justice.

Chief Justice Chellur took the oath of office at Calcutta High Court in September 2012. Prior to that, she had been the chief justice of the Kerala and Karnataka high courts. The Bombay assignment will be Chellur's fourth stint as chief justice.

During her tenure in Calcutta, Chief Justice Chellur delivered several significant verdicts, including setting aside the state government's decision to create posts of parliamentary secretaries to give the selected MLAs the powers of ministers and a stay order on the government's decision to give allowances to imams and muezzins.
