Gangtok, Nov. 22: The vehicle of A.D. Subba, the president of Sikkim Himali Rajya Parishad (SHRP), a regional outfit here, was set on fire by a group of criminals today just above Melli in South Sikkim. Subba had gone there to attend a funeral in the area.
At the time of the incident occurred, Subba was attending the funeral was taking place. Soon after the incident the SHRP president lodged an FIR at the Melli police station.
The group of six responsible for the act had come in a Mahindra Maxx and were wearing black masks. Subba’s vehicle, a Maruti Gypsy, had broken down and the driver and a mechanic were fixing the problem when the men arrived.
The deputy inspector-general of police, Akshay Sachdeva, said a police team reached the spot soon after. The burnt vehicle was brought to Melli later in the evening.
