Busy week for GenY - Young Metro

Athletics or art, there is something exciting lined up for every child this week.

Come January 23 and the city will host the third edition of an athletics championship as well as a sit-and-draw competition. Here's what's in store:

What: Debanjan Sen Foundation presents Rush Inter-school Athletics Championship, in association with TTIS

When: January 23 to 25. The action begins at 9am on Day 1, 9.30am on Day 2 and 1pm on the final day.

Where: La Martiniere for Boys

Participants: More than 600 boys and girls from 18 schools are slated to take part. Some of the participating schools are La Martiniere for Boys, La Martiniere for Girls, Modern High School for Girls, St. Xavier's Collegiate School, St. James' School, Frank Anthony Public School, Sushila Birla Girls' School and The Heritage School.

'We are overwhelmed that so many schools are taking part. This proves we are on the right track to achieve our goal of making athletics popular. We also have more girls taking part and even three schools from outside the city - Techno India Group Public School of Siliguri, Divine Mercy School of Howrah, and St. Xavier's school of Panagarh,' said Debashis Sen of Debanjan Sen Foundation.

Events & categories: There are three age categories for both boys and girls - A (under-19), B (under-16) and C (under-13). There are 13 events for boys and 12 for girls, including 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 110m hurdles, shot put, discus throw, long jump and high jump.

Highlights: Footballer Jose Ramirez Barreto and fitness trainer Ranadip Moitra will inaugurate the event. The chief guest on the final day will be Seema Sapru, the principal of The Heritage School.

What: Tridhara Utsav 2015 partnered by Telekids & TTIS

When: Inaugurated on Thursday evening. Event from January 23-26, 9.30am onwards.

What: Around 3,500 children aged three to 12 will take part in the All Bengal Sit and Draw Competition on January 23. On January 26, more than 1,000 kids will showcase their talent from 9am to 5.30 pm.

Highlights: Handicrafts, flower, bird and fish shows and a food festival on the sidelines.
