Foreigner found dead

Siliguri, Aug. 21: Sonam Topden, a 21-year-old Bhutanese, was found dead at his rented house at Agam Singh Giri Nagar today. Pradhannagar police seized sedatives from his room and suspected that an overdose of drugs might have caused the death.

In another incident, the body of 80-year-old Harkabahadur Gurung was recovered by Pradhannagar police from Samarnagar today.


Jute price ire

Cooch Behar: Farmers allegedly set on fire bundles of jute, beat up traders and blocked Dinhata-Cooch Behar Road for offering “abysmally low” price for the produce at a biweekly market at Bhetaguri, 20km from here, on Friday. The traders said the farmers burnt the jute they had already purchased and the loss would come to around Rs 50 lakh.


Kidnap arrest

Siliguri: Rikesh Rai was arrested on Thursday for allegedly helping Sunny Pradhan to abduct a five-year-old boy from Nepal. The boy had been rescued by Pradhannagar cops.
