Rally attack

Burdwan, Sept. 10: At least six CPM workers, including three former councillors of Burdwan municipality, were injured when Trinamul activists attacked the Left party’s procession that was taken out to campaign for the September 21 civic elections in Burdwan this afternoon.

District CPM leaders alleged that the Trinamul workers hurled stones and bombs at them and even fired in the air. Trinamul has denied the allegations.

Dupe cuffs

Burdwan: A four-member CID team on Tuesday raided a house in Burdwan’s Kalna and arrested a father-son duo for allegedly cheating farmers of Rs 1.11 crore.

Nandi plea

Tamluk: An East Midnapore court on Tuesday rejected a prayer by the CID to take into their custody one of the 88 accused in the 2007 Nandigram recapture case. The accused, Sukur Ali, was absconding and surrendered before the district judge on Saturday.

Flood ire

Tamluk: Around 1,000 workers of SUCI-backed Krishak Sangram Committee demonstrated in front of the office of the district magistrate in Tamluk on Tuesday demanding immediate dredging of canals in flood-hit areas of East Midnapore.

Road death

Krishnagar: A 52-year-old farmer was run over by a bus when he was crossing the Krishnagar-Karimpur Road in Nadia on Tuesday.
