Calcutta, March 10: A division bench of Calcutta High Court today adjourned the hearing of petitions moved by two lawyers demanding a CBI probe into the Saradha default crisis till further orders.
Justice Asim Kumar Banerjee, the senior judge of the division bench, said that since a similar petition is pending in the Supreme Court, the high court should not hear the case at the moment. The case will be heard, if necessary, after the disposal of the case by the Supreme Court, the senior judge added.
Calcutta: Calcutta High Court on Monday directed the counsel appearing for the family members of 13 persons killed in the 2007 Nandigram police firing to file an affidavit within a month stating what they considered as “faults” in the CBI chargesheet in the case.
Midnapore: A 24-year-old labourer was killed after being hit by a pick-up van while getting down from a trekker in West Midnapore’s Pingla on Monday. Another youth, who was with him, started pelting people with stones after the youth was declared dead at a hospital. Railway tickets for Ernakulam were found on them.
Midnapore: Suspected Trinamul supporters ransacked the house of the CPM’s Keshpur zonal committee member, Entaj Ali, on Sunday night. Entaj Ali is an accused in the Keshpur multiple murder case of 2003 and is currently out on bail. Trinamul denied its workers were involved.
Behrampore: A Murshidabad woman allegedly strangled her seven-month-old nephew to death and threw the body in an abandoned well on Monday after a quarrel with his family over sharing of the electricity bill for the month.
