Bengdubi soccer host to 7 schools

The Army Public School at Bengdubi organised a soccer tourney that started on July 13.

Seven teams participated at the Army School Cluster Level Tournament which was inaugurated by Brig. K.K. Lahiri, Commandant, 158 Base Hospital. APS Bengdubi, APS Sukna, APS Binnaguri, AS Bagrakote, AS Kalimpong, AS Darjeeling and AS Gangtok took part in the competition.

The final league match of the tournament was won by APS Bengdubi which defeated AS Binnaguri.

Brigadier Amulya Mohan, Commander, Headquarters 111 Sub-area, and chairman of APS Bengdubi, was present as the chief guest at the closing day of the event.

Manjit Singh, a former footballer of the national team, and coaches from the Sports Authority of India, were also present at the tournament.

APS Bengdubi and AS Kalimpong qualified for the command level in clusters three and four.

Special bus

As part of centenary celebrations of the Trishakti signallers, the corps of the signals organised a series of events.

Among other programmes, the Signallers modified a vehicle and named it Asha School Bus.

The bus designed for the specially abled children was inaugurated by Major General M.S. Sidhu, the Chief of Staff, Trishakti Corps.

Baton relay

The Queen’s Baton relay was escorted to the Sukna military station by a cavalcade of motorcycles and jeeps.

The baton was taken to the Army School in Sukna and Kendriya Vidyalaya in Khaprail where the students welcomed it.

The baton was later taken to Jagjit Hall.

Renowned athletes from the army took part in the relays before the baton was received by Lt Gen. D.S. Sidhu, GOC of the Trishakti Corps.

The baton was then handed over to civilian authorities for carrying it to the Kanchenjungha Stadium in Siliguri.
