The seventh edition of the fair in Calcutta has broken past records of turnout, book sales and publisher participation, said an organiser."We got 51 publishing houses this year, which is the highest ever. The book sales in five days have surpassed last year's sales over eight days and thousands of people are coming to the fair ground everyday," said a senior official of Bangladesh deputy high commission, the organiser of the event. Seminars are being held on a range of issues - from the role of women in publishing to the status of little magazines - at the fairground every evening. Poets are being given a platform to recite their works. "Over 200 poets have already read out poems at the fair," said an organiser. The fair, which had started on November 15, will continue till November 24. It is open from 2pm to 8pm.
