The 92nd birth anniversary of V Balsara was celebrated at Sarat Sadan on the evening of June 22, where memories of the musician were shared by some well-known personalities from the film and music fraternity.
V Balsara Memorial Committee and Calcutta United Cultural Society organised the programme where the V Balsara Memorial Award was presented to film director Tarun Majumdar, music director Abhijit Bandopadhyay, musician Pratap Roy and guitarist Swapan Sen. Folk singer Amar Pal presided over the programme which was attended by singer Dipankar Chattopadhyay, the director of Doordarshan, Partho Chakraborty, Sashikant Gathani, owner of a music company and music director Kalyan Sen Barat.
After receiving the award, Tarun Majumdar said, “It is an honour to receive this award in Balsaraji’s name.” Kalyan Sen Barat remembered the day when Balsara received the Alauddin Award. “He had announced that he would record Tagore’s Debotar Gras with the prize money and he kept his word,” said Barat.
