On April 23 evening, Anikul Islam and his brother-in-law Najimul Haque, from villages in the Chanchal police station area of Malda, were shot at in Budgam district of Kashmir by suspected terrorists, who fired indiscriminately.

Their families had urged district Trinamul leaders and the administration to bring them back to Bengal.

On Tuesday evening, they landed in Kolkata. Sources in the state administration said they would board a night train to Malda.

“They are being accompanied by two other migrants who are their relatives. We collected their details, as directed by the state government, and shared them with the resident commissioner in New Delhi. He made the arrangements to bring the duo back,” said Rajarshi Mitra, district magistrate of Malda.

The families thanked the Mamata Banerjee government for bringing them home.

“It is good that the state has made arrangements to bring them home. We are hoping for their complete recovery,” said Merina Bibi, Anikul’s wife.

Found hanging

A 32-year-old man was found dead on the top floor of a five-storey residential building at Roy Bahadur Road on Tuesday afternoon.

Soumya Subhra Chakraborty was found hanging from the ceiling fan with a dupatta. He was taken to the Vidyasagar State General Hospital where he was declared brought dead. No suicide note has been recovered, police said.
