Calcutta: Rideshare company Uber has joined the outstation bandwagon like rival Ola, extending the convenience of booking a cab with a tap on your app to long trips within Bengal.
Uber Intercity currently allows the user to request a ride to Digha, Mandarmani, Haldia, Asansol, Durgapur, Burdwan and Kharagpur from Calcutta. Ola Outstation offers rides to any destination in India.
Both can be booked just the way you call for a cab by going to the app and pressing "Ride Now" or "Confirm", depending on your choice of rideshare.
Uber provides instant bookings on Uber Intercity with a cab arriving in 25 minutes while Ola Outstation promises a cab pick-up within an hour.
On the phone app, just key in the destination for the Uber Intercity vehicle options to appear. You can choose between Intercity and Intercity Premier. A ride to Mandarmani from Calcutta on Intercity is available for a fare of Rs 1,863.32. Intercity Premier charges Rs 2,148.23 over the same distance.
Uber is also offering introductory flat fares of Rs 2,899 to Durgapur and Rs 3,099 to Asansol. A cancellation charge of Rs 100 is applicable, but is waived if cancelled within five minutes of booking.
For Uber Intercity, only cash payments are accepted. And the company does not offer round trips other than to and from Asansol and Durgapur. "As of now, we are not offering a return trip from the other intercity destinations to Calcutta," a spokesperson for Uber said.
Intercity rides are on cars in the category of a Ritz or a Wagon R. Intercity Premier provides an Accent or a Dzire.
Ola Outstation has been live on the app since 2016, offering rides to any destination within India. One can schedule an outstation ride up to seven days in advance or do an instant booking.
Ola Outstation also offers round trips. A ride to Mandarmani from Calcutta on Ola Outstation in a Mini - Indica, Micra or Ritz - costs Rs 3,315. This includes the base fare of Rs 2,800 (an estimated distance of 200km and six hours of travel) and taxes and fees (driver allowance of Rs 175, night-time allowance of Rs 125 and taxes amounting to Rs 215).
The fare excludes toll costs, parking, permits and state tax. Extra charges of Rs 100 for every additional hour and Rs 11 for every extra kilometre are applicable.
The driver allowance of Rs 175 is for 24 hours and the night-time allowance is for 11pm to 6am. The cancellation fee is Rs 150, which is waived if cancelled within five minutes of a booking.
