Users now have 10,000 characters to play around with when posting on Threads. The platform said it will let users append text snippets of up to 10,000 characters, which will help journalists, bloggers, and creators.

So far, Threads has allowed 500 characters, which is more than the 280 characters offered to X’s unverified users. But in 2023, X introduced a way for its paid subscribers to post up to 25,000 characters, which was expected to bring in more creators to publish content directly on the platform.

You can add a text attachment to a post by tapping a new rectangle icon with lines on it. It will open a word editor where you can type, and you can format your text with bold, italics, underlines, and strikethroughs.

On your feed, a text attachment appears as a small block below the main post. Tapping that block will expand to show the full attachment for users to read. If you include a link in your main Threads post, that link will also appear in the expanded text attachment.

“This gives people more room to express themselves and start conversations — and helps their community discover their work wherever it lives. For example, an author might attach text to their post to tease a portion of a forthcoming novel, while a journalist might promote their latest think piece. Text attachments are part of our ongoing efforts to improve the creator experience on Threads,” Meta said in a statement.
