Sudipto Roy's film 30 Days of Autumn will have its official screening at the Cannes Marché du Film on May 18. Inspired by Rabindranath Tagore’s classic short story Postmaster, 30 Days of Autumn is a quiet yet powerful meditation on human connection, impermanence, and the unspoken emotions that bind us. With a visual and emotional language rooted in the traditions of independent cinema, the film traces the delicate relationship between a transient visitor and a village boy — two lives brought together by chance, and pulled apart by circumstance.
Sudipto Roy, known for his evocative and emotionally resonant storytelling, brings his most personal work yet. “This film is a tribute to those quiet departures that shape our lives,” Roy shares. “It’s about the spaces between words, the glances that go unanswered, and the ache of what remains unsaid.”
The film features a cast led by Debanjali Kamstra as Arpita Chakraborty, Maulik Ghosh as Ratan, Bidyut Das as Madhu Dutta, and Senjuti Mukherjee (voice-over) as Arpita’s Mother. With cinematography by Ayan Sil, an evocative score by Diptarko Bose (with vocals by Madhubanti Bagchi), the film creates a world where silence speaks louder than words.
"We are trying to push the boundaries of indie filmmaking with some international collaborations and trying to reach out to the community of international film studios and distributors. It’s a huge market and we hope to get buyers of the film along with the idea of adapting classics into less than an hour films, which I feel is an interesting new concept in the world of cinema watching. Debanjali, along with my producer Christian, will be at the Palais to celebrate and discuss our journey with the film and the way forward," said Sudipto.
