There was already enough excitement inside Nazrul Tirtha with the trailer launch of Saptadingar Guptodhon, but what unfolded eventually felt much bigger than a regular film event. It became part trailer launch, part nostalgia trip and part celebration of how Bengali adventure franchises have quietly built their own loyal cinematic universe over the years. As actors, filmmakers and fans filled the venue, the worlds of Saptadingar Guptodhon and Vijaynagar’er Hirey came together in one room, creating a rare moment where two of Bengali cinema’s adventure universes were celebrated side by side.

The trailer launch saw the presence of Abir Chatterjee, Ishaa Saha, Arjun Chakrabarty and director Dhrubo Banerjee, alongside special appearances by Kaushik Ganguly and Rajatava Dutta. But the loudest cheers of the afternoon were reserved for the surprise arrival of Prosenjit Chatterjee, who joined the celebration along with members of the Vijaynagar’er Hirey team.

The trailer itself promises that Saptadingar Guptodhon may well be the franchise’s biggest chapter yet. Set against the dangerous and visually striking backdrop of the Sundarbans, the film appears to push the scale of the Guptodhon universe far beyond what audiences have seen before. The sharply edited trailer moves quickly through gunfire, dark caves, dangerous waterways, tiger-infested forests and high-stakes treasure hunting, while still holding on to the humour, emotional warmth and friendship that made audiences fall in love with Sona Da, Abir and Jhinuk in the first place. There is mystery, mythology, suspense and plenty of action packed into the glimpse audiences received, with the Sundarbans almost becoming a character of its own throughout the trailer.

One of the biggest highlights of the trailer was the return of Dashanan, played by Rajatava Dutta, whose villainous presence immediately adds tension and unpredictability to the story. The trailer also hints at more physically demanding action than the previous films, with scenes involving firearms, dangerous expeditions and confrontations deep inside hostile terrain. At the centre of it all remains Abir Chatterjee’s Sona Da, still calm, intelligent and commanding even when chaos unfolds around him.

Reflecting on the emotional connection audiences have built with the franchise over the years, Abir said, “The love audiences have given Sona Da and the Guptodhon franchise over the years has been overwhelming. Saptadingar Guptodhon pushes the scale, emotion, and adventure much further, while still retaining the heart and nostalgia people associate with these characters.” Sona Da no longer feels like just a film character; he has slowly become part of Bengali popular culture.

Speaking about the larger significance of Bengali adventure films finding commercial success, Prosenjit Chatterjee said, “It is incredibly heartening to witness Bengali audiences embracing adventure stories and franchise cinema with so much love. Films like Guptodhon and Kakababu have created their own worlds and memories for audiences. Seeing these two universes celebrated together at Nazrul Tirtha makes this afternoon truly special.” His arrival also gave the event an emotional layer because the afternoon doubled as a celebration of Vijayanagar’er Hirey completing 100 successful days at the box office, marking an important moment for Bengali franchise filmmaking overall.

For Arjun Chakrabarty and Ishaa Saha, returning to the Guptodhon world clearly carried personal emotion too. Speaking about the experience, they shared, “Every chapter of the Guptodhon franchise feels like returning home, but this film feels bigger and more immersive than ever before. Shooting amidst the Sundarbans brought an entirely different energy and realism to the storytelling. Audiences will experience stronger emotions, deeper relationships, and a thrilling new adventure.”

Director Dhrubo Banerjee explained that expanding the cinematic scale of the franchise while preserving its emotional core remained central to the film’s vision. “With Saptadingar Guptodhon, we wanted to create a larger and more mysterious adventure experience. The Sundarbans offered unpredictability, history, danger, and beauty — everything that this story demanded. At its core, the film remains an emotional adventure entertainer for families and audiences of all generations,” he said.

What stood out most throughout the afternoon was how naturally the celebration transformed into something larger than a promotional event. Both Guptodhon and Kakababu have managed to build loyal audiences across generations by blending nostalgia, adventure, history and mainstream entertainment. At Nazrul Tirtha, that growing legacy felt visible in real time. Saptadingar Guptodhon releases in theatres across India on May 15.
