Over the decades, Shazam has become a verb. If you hear a song playing at a restaurant or even on your neighbour’s stereo, simply Shazam it on your smartphone to find out the artiste or name of the song.
Shazam has announced the launch of the Shazam Viral Charts, which takes advantage of the platform’s powerful data to offer music fans a comprehensive view of fastest-growing songs across the globe.
Updated daily on Shazam and Apple Music, the charts use signals unique to Shazam to surface songs going viral in real time, then ranks songs by their weekly growth in Shazam volume. The charts don’t just track social hits — they capture the full spectrum of how songs are catapulted into the spotlight.
The charts track how songs emerge to popularity, including cultural moments from TV, film, streaming, and other global events. An increasing number of songs are taking unconventional paths to the Shazam charts, like Doechii’s TikTok hit Anxiety and Billy Preston’s Nothing From Nothing, which reached No. 4 on the US chart after being featured on The White Lotus finale.
In 2024, Shazam’s year-end Top 100 included 31 songs that were released before 2022, including 2004’s Unwritten by Natasha Bedingfield and 2011’s Bloody Mary by Lady Gaga.
Now, with the Shazam Viral Charts updating daily, users will be able to see and listen to these, all in one place: Breakout songs that launch an artiste to overnight fame, local gems recently skyrocketing to global fame, and catalogue hits returning to the charts for another round, decades after release.
The global chart ranks the top 50 songs, while national charts rank 25 songs.
