elatives of a homemaker who died at the Beleghata Infectious Diseases Hospital on Sunday started an agitation at the hospital, alleging negligence. Diarrhoea patient Jayanti Bose had been admitted on Saturday night. She was getting better but died after a nurse administered an injection on Sunday afternoon, alleged her relatives. Jayanti’s family members gheraoed the hospital authorities and scuffled with police. The nurse had given her a life-saving drug, said a hospital official. Cops have detained eight.
Bridge toll: The toll on Nivedita Setu will increase from Tuesday, a day after the 6.1km long six-lane bridge completes four years of operation. Light passenger vehicles will have to shell out Rs 33 (up from Rs 30) and light goods vehicles Rs 99 (Rs 85 now) for one-way passage. Buses, trucks and multi-axle vehicles will have to pay Rs 65 (Rs 60), Rs 157 (Rs 145) and Rs 183 (Rs 170), respectively. Saugata Roy, the Union minister of state for urban development, who attended a programme on Sunday to mark four years of the bridge, said the company that operates it should maintain it better.
Attack on dog: Bhola, a bus driver in his 30s, was arrested in Chetla after members of Debasree Roy Foundation lodged an FIR against the man for allegedly beating up a street dog in the area. The dog has been admitted to Ashari, an animal shelter and hospital, in Mukundapur.
