Six students of the Satyajit Ray Film and Television Institute (SRFTI) are on an indefinite hunger strike demanding that the admission test be put on hold till the entrance test fees are reduced and the annual fee hike is revoked.

The students on strike since Tuesday said the minimum entrance test fee for general category was Rs 4,000 for one course and Rs 10,000 for all courses. “It should be Rs 1,000 for all courses for general category and half for reserved categories,” said Manas Krishna, who is on hunger strike.

Pune’s Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) will hold the entrance tests for the 2020 session on February 15 and 16 for the two institutes. “Students of both institutes decided on the strike when the FTII’s governing council did not address the matter,” Krishna said.

A meeting of the FTII governing council has been called on December 27, SRFTI director Debamitra Mitra said.

Another student alleged SRFTI had been raising the tuition and hostel fees by 10 per cent since 2016.
