The archdiocese of Calcutta has decided to webcast the Holy Mass on Sundays and services during the Holy Week, the week preceding Easter.
The first webcast of the service was done last Sunday before which Archbishop Thomas D’Souza had asked the priests of the 65-odd churches in the city to suspend all public religious services till March 31. It has been extended till the lockdown is lifted.
“We will make use of technology to reach out to people so that they feel comforted. Technology will bring us together and all can pray together with the archbishop,” Father Dominic Gomes, vicar general of the archdiocese, said.
“This will be followed till the lockdown is lifted.”
Archbishop D’Souza will preside over the services and it will be webcast live on YouTube and on a link on the archdiocese’s website.
The Holy Week starts with Palm Sunday and ends on the subsequent Sunday, which is Easter, Father Rodney Borneo, a priest of the archdiocese of Calcutta, said.
