Yachting debut in Manipur

Imphal, June 27: Manipur’s sporting scene will add yet another discipline to its fold with the formation of a yachting association in the state recently.
The Yachting Federation of India has already given its nod to the formation of the state organisation and the federation’s joint secretary, K.D. Singh, had visited Imphal just a few days ago.
He scouted for favourable sites around Loktak lake to assess the possibility of holding a national tournament in its vicinity in the near future.
K.D. Singh, who is the general commander of the Indian Navy, accompanied by works minister Kh. Ratankumar Singh, who is the adviser to the state association, had visited Komlakhong to assess the wind condition, which forms the core necessities of the event.
Chief of the Indian Navy heads the Yachting Federation of India as its president.
Dushwanta Singh will head the state association.
The federation’s joint secretary, K.D. Singh, said in Manipur, the land of sports, yachting will bring out many more talents.
He added that apart from the sports, events of yachting would help tourism grow.
Works minister Kh. Ratankumar Singh said the game itself does not need elaborate structures but good waterbodies with a good head wind.
The federation’s officials have conveyed that it will carry out the training for enthusiastic sportpersons soon.
Archery medals: Assam archers Sanjay Boro and Dhaniram Basumatary bagged a gold and bronze medal respectively for the state in the 4th National Ranking Archery Tournament under way in Hyderabad till June 29.
