Two youths committed suicide by hanging themselves in the early hours of Thursday.

The two have been identified as Titan Das, a resident of ward 8, Rampur, and Amarjeet Singh, a resident of ward 9, also Rampur. While Titan was 21, Amarjeet was 18.

Sources said Titan’s body was found hanging from a tree near his house while Amarjeet hanged himself from the ceiling of his room.

Titan was the younger son of Khokhan Das, a labourer. He has an elder brother and a younger sister. Amarjeet was the elder son of Ashok Singh, a labourer at FCI. He has seven sisters and two younger brothers.

Gautam Kumar, officer-in-charge, Hojai Police station, said, “There is no link between the two cases. The families suspect no foul play either but we will launch an investigation. The bodies have been been sent for post mortem to Nagaon civil hospital.”

“Titan was my younger son. He use to work as a labourer. We were happy. What made him take such a step, we cannot understand,” said Titan’s father Khokhan.

“Amarjeet was a college student and used to help me in my work. He used to play games on the mobile. He played games with his siblings last night also. We are all shocked,” his father said.

Neighbours said both were well-behaved youths.
