Masala plays are the favourite flavour among mobile theatre groups these days. However, Rajashri Theatre’s Satya Heral Kot (Where has truth gone?) has tried to break away from this regular theme.

Penned by dramatist Jiten Sharma, Satya Heral Kot tells the story of a morally upright college principal, Satya Nath Bora, played by veteran actor Pranjit Das.

The play talks about the eternal conflict between good and evil. Pitted against the corrupt businessman, the principal’s honesty is put to the test several times, but each time he comes out unscathed. The principal’s younger son, who does not agree with his father’s upright ways, sides with the corrupt detractors.

But in the end the younger son sorts out his differences with his father and begs him for forgiveness. Things are back to normal for the family once again.

But disillusioned with the world around him, Satya Nath Bora suddenly leaves home, never to return.

The play manages to deliver a powerful message and strike a chord among the audience. The playwright certainly deserves kudos for the subject. Producer Chakradhar Deka’s efforts at trying out a social drama with a very contemporary message is worthy of praise. He has brought in some refreshing elements in treatment, which have made the entire production captivating.

Parag Sharma puts in a very good performance as the prinicipal’s younger son. Champak Sharma as the corrupt businessman does justice to his role. Veteran actor Pranjit Das as the college principal proves his mettle yet again in Satya Heral Kot.
