Jorhat, Dec. 12: Assam Police will participate as a district team in major tennis tournaments in the state.

The team will make its maiden appearance in the 19th all-Assam inter-district tennis championship, beginning January 6 at the Jorhat Tennis Club, states the All Assam Tennis Association?s tournament schedule for 2004-2005.

The first tournament of the year, the 13th Northeast open, will commence at the North East Tennis Foundation courts in Dispur on December 19, followed by the 14th Jorhat open at the Jorhat Tennis Club from December 26.

The India Club open, one of the prestigious tournaments of the state, will begin on January 17 in Guwahati.

The All India Tennis Association (AITA)?s talent series, a national ranking tournament, will be held at the Golaghat Tennis Club from January 24. Another AITA talent series national ranking tournament will be held at Jorhat Tennis Club from January 31.

Apart from the AITA series, the Golaghat-based tennis club will host the ninth Northeast tennis championship from March 28.

The AITA super series national ranking tournament will be held at the North East Tennis Foundation courts from February 7.

The Zaloni Club in Duliajan will host the all-Assam junior tennis championship, while the Nurul Amin junior tennis tournament will be held at Nagaon Tennis Club from February 24.
