Shillong priest made bishop

Shillong, Aug. 25: Father George Rajendran Kuttinadar, SDB, principal of St Anthony’s Higher Secondary School here, was yesterday appointed the new bishop of Thuckalay diocese by Pope Benedict XVI.

The ecclesiastical provision was made public in Rome yesterday. The Episcopal ordination of Fr Kuttinadar, who will be one of the youngest bishops, will take place on September 16.

Thuckalay, the first Syro-Malabar diocese of Tamil Nadu, is a municipal town in Kanyakumari district.

Fr Kuttinadar was born on April 14, 1968 in the parish of Padanthalumoodu of the Syro-Malabar eparchy of Thuckalay.

He joined the Salesians of Don Bosco and took his first vows on May 23, 1994 and perpetual vows on May 23, 2002. He was ordained as a priest on December 29, 2003.

He completed his philosophical studies in Nashik and theological studies in Shillong.

Fr Kuttinadar has previously worked as assistant headmaster in Don Bosco, Guwahati, prefect of studies in Savio Juniorate, vice-principal of St Anthony’s school and vice-rector of the Minor Seminary.
