Dhemaji: A jawan of the Assam Regiment was arrested on Monday in Doimukh on rape charges.

The accused has been identified as Gake Kamra of Payeng of Taliha subdivision in Upper Subansiri district of Arunachal Pradesh.

According to reports, the incident took place at the girl's house on Friday when she was alone and the jawan forcefully entered the house and raped her. He later fled and was absconding.

According to Daporijo police station in charge T. Rebia, the girl, in her complaint, revealed she was raped by the same person in 2007 and that they hail from the same village.

An FIR was lodged at Daporijo police station in Upper Subansiri district headquarter and a case was registered under Section 376/493 of the IPC.

A source said the previous incident was resolved in the traditional court and the accused had promised to get married to the girl but abandoned her after getting a job.
