Shillong, Oct. 6: They came. They sang. They conquered hearts.

Notwithstanding the emphatic victory in the reality show, India’s Got Talent Khoj 2, Neil Nongkynrih’s Shillong Chamber Choir remains humble to the core.

“We have no ambition of becoming superstars through our victory. We are all ordinary people, and we will remain that way,” a humble Nongkynrih said.

He addressed reporters today, along with other members of his Choir. The Choir returned from Mumbai yesterday after winning the reality show on October 2.

Narrating the group’s experience in the reality show, Nongkynrih said, “We never wanted to go in the first place. We felt the nature of the competition was inappropriate for us. We also thought the genre of music we are used to singing might not fit the show.”

He said, “We were approached by various global companies of repute after winning the contest, but for us, money is not important. We do not want celebrity life. Our intention is to touch people’s hearts through our songs.”

When asked about Bollywood songs performed by the Choir, Nongkynrih said, “It was like going back to my childhood days. Yeh Dosti from Sholay was a tribute to the friendship we share within the team.”

Paying rich tributes to the Almighty, Nongkynrih said, “Without God, nothing is possible in life. When you glorify God, He also glorifies you.”

He recounted how he had stuck to his decision to perform the song, “To God be the Glory”, on the grand finale, when the organisers had tried to convince him to choose some other song.

Nongkynrih said the Choir would perform at three concerts in some districts of Meghalaya to acknowledge people’s support.
