Many of Bhupen Hazarika’s songs can be easily sung in Sanskrit. Bhupenda’s songs are research oriented. While translating his songs into Sanskrit, I have to be very careful with the words he uses, given the nuances. The entire process of translating and making a song takes two to six months. Translating Bhupenda’s songs into Sanskrit will help make them even more popular, especially in the southern parts of the country. I think the thrust and effect created by Bhupenda’s songs in Assamese can be retained in Sanskrit.
