Ranchi, March 12: Hansa, a widow, is running from pillar to post to get back her ancestral land but she is exploited by landlord Gordhan Patel.

She falls in a trap and takes revenge by roping in Patel’s daughter into prostitution. But Patel takes the villagers into confidence and brands Hansa a witch and gets her killed.

This is the plot of the telefilm Dakini, which is set in Gujarat. Another telefilm, Ek Pal Ka Sukh, also depicts the plight of women and the nature of the society towards her.

In this film, Ladli is supposed to get married to Khema but at last moment the baraat returns, making her life miserable.

Both the telefilms depict the plight of women who are ostracised by the society and are unable to live in peace.

The premiere of both the telefilms was held at the Doordarshan Kendra in Ranchi today.

Bhupendra Narayan Singh, is the director of the telefilm, Dakini while the story and dialogues have been written by Shailesh Pandit and Ashok Kumar Anchal respectively — all from Ranchi.

This telefilm will be aired on Doordarshan, Ranchi, on March 29 at 7.15pm.

Meanwhile, another telefilm made under the “Indian classic” category, Ek Pal Ka Sukh is also directed by Singh and written by Hetu Bhardawaj. It will be aired on March 15 at 7.30pm.

One of the artistes, Jiniya Mazumdar, who played Hansa’s character said, the film was shot at Lalghutwa for around nine days.

“It was a challenging role for me. I have also done a few Bhojpuri and Nagpuri albums before,” she said.

While another senior artiste, Kalpana Mitra, who was also a part of Dakini, said: “I have been associated with Ranchi Doordarshan since 1985-86. It has given me a platform to showcase my talent,” Mitra said.

Singh, the director of both the telefilms, said the Doordarshan directorate at New Delhi selected the projects.

“One of the films was selected by Prasar Bharati under the Indian classic category,” he added.

“We have made telefilms based on senior citizens earlier. It was titled Panch Bhor Ki Zindagi Ban Chuka. This apart, telefilms like Thariye Age Jungle Hain and Shoke Parv, were all aired on Doordarshan,” he said.

The telefilms were made to convey a social message to the society.

“Though Indians are making a mark in all the fields, the basic mentality and superstitions prevail. This has remained unchanged and through my films I wish to highlight that,” he added.
