A 40-year-old widow from Kishoreganj has approached police, saying her voter ID and Aadhaar card were used without authorisation by someone to secure a loan of Rs 22.5 lakh.

In the official document available with Bank of Baroda’s Harmu branch, purported victim Anita Devi is shown as a guarantor against the loan taken by a person whose name or details the woman says she is unaware of. Kotwali thana OC S.N. Mandal said a case would be registered after preliminary inquiry.

According to Anita Devi, who is unemployed, she visited her bank in the first week of October to apply for a loan of Rs 50,000 under the PM Mudra Yojana.

“Bank officials sought my voter and Aadhaar cards, besides other documents, to check if I was a defaulter or carry a bad loan. They told me I had become guarantor of a person who had obtained a loan of Rs 22.5 lakh and now turned defaulter,” she told police in her complaint.

Asked what took her so long to file a complaint, she said one of her relatives was trying to gather details about the loan. “The guarantor’s name is shown as Anit Anita Devi, but the voter ID and Aadhaar card are mine. The loan was obtained between August and October last year. I never singed any such document,” she said.
