Ranchi, Aug. 30: The core committee of National Games Organising Committee (NGOC), led by R.R. Prasad, the adviser (sports) to the governor, today decided to speed up preparations for the 34th National Games, scheduled to start on December 9.
The committee also decided to expedite meetings of the vending agencies — the Games Technical Conduct Committee and the competition directors.
They also inspected all the nine stadia in the capital and asked the construction company officials to rectify minor faults and ready the facilities for handover to the building construction department, which in turn would hand them over to NGOC, said S.M. Hashmi, organising secretary.
Today’s inspection and the subsequent meeting at the VIP Guest House, Hotwar, was led by Prasad. The state sports secretary Sukhdev Singh, director (sports) Anurag Gupta, the working chairman NGOC R.K. Anand, the NGOC treasurer M.K. Pathak and Hashmi, all members of the Core Committee were also present.
Building construction department secretary K.K. Khandelwal and senior engineers also participated as special invitees along with senior officials of the construction companies Nagarjuna and Simplex.
“The NGOC today decided to visit Dhanbad on September 5 to go through a similar exercise of assessment and evaluation of the preparations for the 34th national games,” said Hashmi.
This would be followed by a meeting of the vending agencies on September 8 in which various agencies, selected to provide services like catering, transport and sanitation during the games will participate.
And on September 14, the Games Technical Conduct Committee , comprising representatives of 33 national sports federations, will inspect the venues for verifying technical preparedness of the venues for their respective discipline.
They will hold a meeting to discuss technical aspects and for issuance of certificates and for suggesting modifications, if required.
These meetings will be followed by a meeting of Competition Directors later this month.
The competition directors will check the equipment purchased for games and will issue a “worthiness” certificate.
The committee also decided to float tenders in a couple of days for purchase of terraflex for the indoor stadia for volleyball and basketball.
