Ranchi, Sept. 9: After Sheikh Bhikhari, Tikait Umrao Singh and Budhu Bhagat, the native village of another hero of the revolt of 1857 — Pandey Ganpat Rai — is set to earn the model tag with a focus on holistic development.

Deputy chief minister Sudesh Mahto will be laying the foundation stone on September 14 to turn Bhawro in Bhandra block of Lohardaga into a model village.

The state government has plans to develop 100 model villages across the state, with a priority to honour Jharkhand’s heroes in the first phase. The idea is to make the native villages of martyrs self-sufficient.

Bhawro village will have a gram sansad, akhara, cultural centre, pucca roads, electricity supplies to every household, modernised health centre, better irrigation facilities among other amenities. Various welfare and development schemes will also be consolidated to ensure integrated growth of the village.

Pandey Ganpat Rai laid down his life while fighting against colonial rulers. But his native place remains neglected. The village in Lohardaga, which is covered by the Integrated Action Plan, will benefit from the centrally sponsored scheme.

The Centre has already deputed two management experts to prepare blueprints for integrated growth of villages in the district.

Lohardaga DC Ratan Kumar said his district had two professionally qualified women, who had been asked to chalk out plans of positive growth in consultation with gram sabhas.
