Jamshedpur, May 15: The management of the ailing public sector undertaking Hindustan Copper Limited (HCL) has drawn up a production blueprint and manpower requirement plan in the four units of the PSU for the next three financial years.
Although the reason for this sudden preparation of the production plan for the next three fiscal could not be ascertained, speculation is rife that the details are being prepared for the coming meeting between HCL officials and the Union mines ministry.
Union mines minister Ramesh Baish had during a meeting with Jharkhand Copper Mazdoor Union (JCMU) leaders in New Delhi said he would hold a meeting with PSU officials to discuss the details of the company after May 18. JCMU is one of the trade unions attached with HCL.
President of JCMU Sudhir Mahato and its general secretary Debi Prasad Mukherjee had met Baish and urged the latter to take steps to revive the ailing company.
“HCL officials are likely to discuss the production and other plans of the company for 2004-05, 2005-06 and 2006-07 during the coming meeting with the minister and seek financial help from the ministry to implement the plan,” sources said.
“All the four units of HCL have submitted their production plans and manpower requirements to the HCL authorities and based on their report the company authorities have drawn up the blueprint,” sources said.
The four units of HCL are located at Khetri (Rajasthan), Taloja (Maharashtra), Malajkhand (Madhya Pradesh) and Ghatshila (Jharkhand). The PSU, which had incurred huge financial losses in the last few fiscal, has been earmarked by Centre for disinvestments.
Sources in the PSU said the management of these four units were asked to furnish details annual production target of various finished products, manpower retrenchment package, plans for closure or expansion of any section of the plant.
Based on the feedback from these four units, HCL authorities prepared a blueprint for the company for the next three financial years. The authorities have also called a meeting of the heads of these four units to discuss the plan.
