Two bodies, one of them decomposed, were recovered from two separate houses at Bhetiya Basti in Kadma on Friday morning.
While one of the dead, 27-year-old Neeraj Kumar, was found hanging from the ceiling fan of his room, police are not sure about how Subhamay Chakraborty (45) died.
The bodies have been sent for post-mortem.
Neeraj’s brother Nishant Kumar said that there was nothing unusual in the former’s behaviour. “Around 6am, Neeraj dropped my brother-in-law at Tatanagar station and returned home. Two hours later, I found the door of his room bolted from inside. As he had to go to office, I knocked, but there was no response. Sensing something wrong, we broke open the door to find him hanging,” Nishant said.
The deceased, a bachelor who used to work at a private company, did not leave behind any suicide note.
Officer in charge of Kadma police station sub-inspector Raju, however, said it appeared to be a suicide case. “Something must have prompted the youth to end his life but his family is not revealing much,” he added.
In the other case, police, after being alerted about a foul smell emanating from a house at Bhetiya Basti, broke into Subhamay’s rented room around 8am to find him dead. Kadma OC said as the deceased was an alcoholic, he might have died due to intake of excessive liquor.
