Patna: The Telangana police with the help of its Samastipur counterparts on Monday evening arrested Subhash Sharma, a contract killer, in connection with the murder of a Telangana Dalit youth for allegedly marrying an upper caste girl.

Sharma, who was given the contract to kill 24-year-old youth, Perumalla Pranay Kumar, had attacked him from behind with a machete, while he was leaving the hospital in Nalgonda district with his wife on September 14.

Samastipur superintendent of police Deepak Ranjan said: "The Telangana police on Monday contacted us and in a joint operation being carried out by the two state police teams, Sharma was arrested while he was going to his house."

Sharma, a resident of Jagatpur under Mufassil police station, was nabbed while he was going to his house.

Mufassil police station house officer B.N. Mehta said: "Sharma after executing the crime on September 14 had fled to Hyderabad from where he had gone to Bangalore. From Bangalore he was coming to Samastipur in a train. The police had this information."

"A joint police team of Telangana and Samastipur police on Monday night arrested Sharma 500 metres from his house. Sharma was handed over to the Telangana police."

The Samastipur police said Sharma was working at the shop of a certain Abdul Karim, who gave the contract to him for executing the murder. Mehta said: "The contract for murder was Rs 1 crore and Sharma had to get Rs 10 lakh for executing the murder. He had received Rs 1 lakh."

Pranay's widow Amrutha Varshini blamed her father and other family members for the murder. The woman's father, Tirunagari Maruthi Rao, is an upper-caste realtor. He was allegedly upset with his daughter for marrying a man from a different caste and wanted to end the marriage.

Sharma's family lives at Mufassil and the family owns a small piece of land in the village.
