Property attachment of former social welfare minister Kumari Manju Verma ended on Sunday.

A police team led by Manjhaul sub-divisional police officer Suryadev Kumar seized utensils, furniture and other movable assets from Manju’s Sripur Arjun Tola house. The team left with three trucks of seized goods, which were later kept at the Cheria Bariyarpur police station.

An FIR has been lodged against Manju and her husband, Chandeshwar Verma, at the police station after huge ammunition was recovered from their house on August 17.

CBI’s DSP-rank officer Umesh Kumar had given the statement after recovery of 50 live cartridges of different calibres, including prohibited ones, during search of the couple’s house in connection with the probe into sexual abuse of girls at Muzaffarpur Balika Grih.

Sub-divisional police officer Suryadev said: “The property attachment began on Saturday and concluded on Sunday. The seizure list is being prepared and will be submitted in court, which had issued a property attachment order on Friday. The seized materials are exhibits of the court.”

Manjhaul additional chief judicial magistrate Prabhat Trivedi had issued a proclamation notice and property attachment order, he added.

Suryadev said raids are still underway to arrest Manju, the Cheria Bariyarpur MLA, declared an absconder on Friday. The police team had faced resistance in their work from Manju’s supporters on Saturday. But the police pacified the people, saying the action had been initiated on the court’s order.

Sources said former minister Manju was waiting for the Supreme Court’s order on her anticipatory petition. She has been evading arrest since Manjhaul sub-divisional court issued a non-bailable arrest warrant against her on October 31. Her husband Chandeshwar surrendered in court on October 29.
