Adriyan Karmakar, the 17-year-old son of Olympian and chief national rifle coach Joydeep Karmakar, won gold in the boys’ 50m rifle three positions event defeating Rajasthan’s Manvendra Shekhawat 16-12 in the Khelo India Youth Games at the Madhya Pradesh Shooting Academy Range in Bhopal on Sunday.

“The competition was lesser of a challenge today (Sunday),” the Bengal shooter said later. “As things transpired, I had to arrive at the range on a tractor and made it just two minutes before the reporting time.”

Speaking about the pressure of being the son of such an accomplished rifle shooter, Adriyan said: “Yes pressure will be there, but I have grown used to it. I now know how to separate my game from what people say. During shooting, I try to cut off myself from the real world,” he said.

Bengal won one more gold. Soumili Karar bagged the yellow metal in the floor exercise of the artistic gymnastics event in Gwalior. Jinia Debnath got the bronze.
